Bakea makes its home downtown in a historic home that's been upfitted quite eclectically ­ one room boasts a Plexiglass floor that provides underfoot lighting to showcase the house's original foundations. Another room boasts a postmodern style, while yet another carries with it a traditional feel. While the menu is International in range, it centers on French cuisine and employs highlights from regional cooking. Notable favorites include the risotto and the juicy tenderloin smothered in a tantalizing guava glaze and served atop polenta.

Eclectic and interesting, the menu at La Luz is quite diverse, featuring regional cuisine, fresh ingredients and a number of international influences. Try the beef tenderloin served with a strawberry-balsamic reduction and served over risotto. The dining room exudes a classic feel, with its large window wall, tropical hardwood floors, unique light fixtures, hand-painted ceiling and vases of fresh flowers. For a special occasion, book the private wine room, or opt for patio or poolside dining. Sunday Brunch is a tasty affair that regularly draws crowds.

Peruvian menu items, like the lemon-flavored mashed potatoes stuffed with shrimp and the chicken craklings, bite-sized chicken pieces served with a savory tartar sauce, draw diners with the skill of the pied piper's storied instrument. The seafood platter is another crowd pleaser ­ big enough to serve two and loaded with shrimp, squid and conch cooked multiple ways. The bar serves an excellent pisco sour, a Peruvian cocktail crafted from pisco (grape liquor). With all these goodies, diners easily forget about the basic decor and focus only on the delights.
